San Diego Newborn Studio

I get asked all the time, how do I keep these little ones so sound asleep? Well, the simple answer is experience. There is so much that goes in to safe and comfortable newborn photography. It takes a special touch and lots of learning capture all these squishy poses! Since starting my photography journey I have been to many classes, conferences, and workshops to ensure that I am being safe. I am also constantly talking with colleagues in photography and child wellness circles to stay up to date!

At the start of a newborn session, I ask if there is anything I should now about your baby. Hip dysplasia, tight muscles, or anything else that might make your little one uncomfortable are always at the forefront of my mind. I pay very close attention while posing and make sure their neck and head is always properly supported. Safety is my number one priority.

But what happens when your baby is just fussy? Luckily, I’ve got a number of tricks up my sleeve. We make sure baby is full and in a clean diaper. Then, I usually ask parents to bring in a pacifier even if they don’t plan on using it. My studio is also pretty toasty to make sure your newborn isn’t cold! Throughout the session there is white noise machine going to help lull everyone to sleep. (Yes, even parents too!)
